Gold zakat guide: nisab and how to calculate it
The 85-gram 24K nisab, the 2.5% rate, and how to calculate zakat for different karats.
Gold nisab
The zakat threshold for gold is 85 grams of pure 24K gold. For lower karats, first work out the pure gold weight.
Converting karat
Pure gold weight = weight × purity. For example, 100 g of 21K contains 87.5 g of pure gold, which reaches the nisab.
Zakat amount
If gold reaches the nisab and is held for a lunar year, zakat is 2.5% of its value at today's price.
